Grenadines Transport Update

Grenadines Transport Update

Much talk lately about fast ferries to the Grenadines and the need to update our marine transport to the Grenadines in this regard. A recent private members bill spearheaded by Senator Marks also spoke of the need to introduce fast ferry services. Trinidad is currently looking at her own marine transport services and word has come to me that SVG has sent its own envoy to gain experience and knowledge from the operators in Trinidad.
A typical craft pictured above has the following Technical specification :
Main characteristics
Length 73.6 metres
Breadth 26.3 metres
Draught loaded 2.5 metres

Applications of High-Speed Wireless Solutions for Developing Countries: Lessons Learned in Latvia and Moldova

Abstract
Wireless technology has become a primary system for delivering high-speed Internet access in Latvia. Because of poor-quality telephone infrastructure, developing countries face the difficult task of connecting locations (located in the same area/city) with dedicated high-bandwidth needs (from 256 kbps to 4 Mbps). The Eastern European countries of Latvia and Moldova are given as examples of where poor telephone infrastructure has been overcome by providing high-speed wireless Internet links to universities, schools, and governament agencies.

The Grenadines at its best!

The Grenadines at its best!

Big Sands Bar & Grill in Union Island. The green roof on the beach. I was present to support a local couple who are in the throws of starting a mini resort. I think you will agree that they are fortunate to have chosen such a fab Location as the picture shows.
So watch this space for future announcements on this small business project. If "location location location" is the law, then this one is a winner for Union Island.

Just back from Union Is in the Grenadines

Just back from Union Is in the Grenadines

It was indeed an experience to visit Union Island again, this time during their Easterval. There is a full activity schedule including sailboats and a carnival atmosphere.
I took the opportunity to meet Friends of Union Island, a group of business persons looking to increase their potetial for success here on the Island where there is huge potential for Tourism develpment. I was seriously tempted by an acre of beachfront land recently up for sale but alas, my budget is not at that level this year. Suffice to say, the weather was a treat and the beaches the reefs and the sheer schenic beauty was greatly appreciated,as were its friendly inhabitants. St Vincent & the Grenadines truly is a great sun getaway. However I really have to comment that there is great need for fast efficient and comfortable ferry services to and from the St Vincent mainland. It took us some 4 hours to get here from St Vincent on the present ferry service after stopping to offload supplies in Canouan and Myreau. But on the whole a blessed and enjoyable EASTER 2007.

Private Sector Development in St Vincent & the Grenadines

THE OPENING SESSION OF THE PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AND WORKSHOP ON FORESIGHT AND BEST BETS – FEBRUARY 26, 2007. St Vincent & the Grenadines
1. The key challenge facing our private sector, and which the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has identified, within its broad strategic objective for businesses, is for the sector to show tangible, significant results in poverty eradication and/or alleviation. To this extent, the government’s intervention into the sector has been to achieve two specific outcomes:
• To achieve pro-poor growth via open markets and through business environmental reforms and strengthening the competitiveness of the local private sector to respond to markets in so-called pro-poor ways.

Uses and Abuses of Governance Indicators

Uses and Abuses of Governance Indicators

THE CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL PRIVATE ENTERPRISE invites you to a roundtable discussion on:

Uses and Abuses of Governance Indicators
with

Dr. Charles Oman,
Senior Economist, OECD Development Centre

For investors, donor organizations, and scholars, judging the quality of governance in countries throughout the world is a difficult and imprecise science. Governance indicators are often cited as reliable sources of information. However, according to the recent study conducted by Dr. Charles Oman and Christiane Arndt, these indicators are frequently misused to both determine and track the progression of governance levels in individual countries. As the authors argue, no single set of indicators can accurately portray the governance environment in a given country or region. Yet, despite their shortcomings, governance indicators are a useful tool if compiled transparently and used properly. Join us as Dr. Oman discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the most widely used indicators and how to apply them effectively.
